Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Thomas has above the line size, as he stands at 6050. Need to check on his official arm measurement, but he looks to have above the line length with a thick and NFL-ready frame, made for the trenches. He does not seem to have any concerning injury history and has appeared in every game over the last 3 seasons.

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Thomas plays with outstanding toughness, as he goes blow for blow with bigger offensive lineman, keeping his hands and feet active. He possesses adequate instincts, as he can diagnose run and pass plays quickly and has a knack for finding the football, especially when already engaged in the block. He has a motor that is always running, as when he is not battling inside, he is chasing ball carriers sideline to sideline

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Thomas is explosive out of his stance, as he shoots his hips and hands to deliver a punch to the OL, or explodes upfield in the pass game, as he is very quick from ground to target. He has enough speed to threaten lineman vertically in the pass rush, which is average to adequate for his size. He has average flexibility and body control, as he is pretty stiff in his hips due to his long frame, and will play high from time to time because of it. He has shown the ability to drop his hips and shoulders to turn and bend around the corner, but he has also shown many rushes where he loses his balance trying to do so. Average COD as well, as he plays high for the most part and cannot always cleanly plant his foot in the ground before changing direction. He plays with above the line strength, as he knocks back blockers in the run game, and has the power to move them in the pass rush as well.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Thomas demonstrates above the line to outstanding initial quickness as he bursts out of his stance. He was a highly disruptive and productive pass rusher in college and should see similar results at the next level, as he shows a couple of very effective moves including a ferocious jab arm-over. He has active hands that are always fighting, as he throws a strong punch. He can get overmatched from time to time on the inside because he gets a bit high but overall, is adequate at the POA, as he holds his own on the inside. Thomas’s outstanding hands are demonstrated by an array of quick escapes. Thomas is a sudden athlete, who bursts out of his plant step and consistently flips his hips at the top of his rush, showing off his adequate to above the line twitch. He has adequate closing speed as well, as he chases down ball carriers and finishes with heavy landings. He plays with an above the line edge and competitive nature. ... He does, however, have to improve more in terms of rushing with more of a plan and developing more counter moves

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Thomas has a frame built for the NFL and the mentality to battle on every snap. He is a tough player that has the strength and athleticism to be productive at the next level. He is not an outstanding athlete but he relies on his power, effort, and heavy hands in both the run and pass games, which should still be effective at the next level. He has the size and versatility to line up anywhere along the DL but fits best as a 4-3 DE, specifically as a 5T, but can play out of a 9, before being moved inside on passing downs, where he can dominate guards with his quickness. He should come in right away and compete for a starting DE spot and can develop into a long-term starter in very little time.
