Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Cam Taylor-Britt is a well-built CB with adequate stature and above average weight distribution. Strong in his upper body with adequate arm length. Was a QB coming out of HS and was listed as a ATH, was getting looks at WR as well as DB. In HS, he tore the meniscus in his right knee as a sophomore (but played through the injury) and in the third game of his junior year, he tore an ACL, two meniscal tears and a fractured patella. Battled through minor injuries throughout college career.

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

As a tackler, he struggles to key in on proper gap recognition while letting the blockers get into his body, which causes his block shed to suffer. His tackling angles and decision-making can be poor. As a coverage man, he shows adequate patience to remain in phase with receiver and move with receiver. Susceptible to double moves or PA and can be caught staring into the backfield.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Sinks well in his back pedal which allows him to fire out of his hips as a tackler and to close. Quick feet but can be chunky in his back pedal causing him to open his hips too quickly and play out of structure early in route. Above average at the POA and showed a propensity to be able to compete against bigger/strong WRs (see Michigan game). Best in press coverage but needs to be more active with shooting his hands take make an effect, not just because he is supposed to. His press skills are affected by his size at the POA but shows an aptitude to be physical.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Moves hips smoothly with ability to change direction quicker in his hips than in his feet. At catch point against bigger receivers, Cam Taylor Britt has a natural instinct to create inside body control which can allow for receptions over the top and back shoulder. Played majority at LCB during his 2021 tape. Puts too much weight on his heels in backpedal with heavy foot movement going backwards, which limits his twitch and suddenness out of his breaks. With WR background, he shows natural ball skills but needs to work on staying patient and allowing 5 yard gains to not turn into 20+ due to jumping the route and breaking based on QB head movement.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Cam Taylor-Britt dealt with a multitude of injuries in HS before committing to Nebraska as an ATH. In his senior season he was named a team captain and started almost 30 career games in college. He played in a heavy zone coverage scheme at Nebraska seeing majority Cover 3, Quarters and Cover 6, but saw about 17% of his snaps in Cover 1. Taylor Britt is an athletic CB who can wins with his speed, COD and ball skills, stemming from above average bend. Has shown the ability to compete against bigger receivers down the field and make a play on the ball with quick flashing hands and fluid hips. Despite a toughness and aggression to his play style, he needs to harness this to limit his mistakes of being over eager and over pursuing. This becomes apparent in the run game with poor gap recognition and angles towards the football. In play action his eyes flash towards the QB movement and can be caught out of place. Taylor-Britt can play in a multitude of scheme's but can struggled in run support. He can be an immediate option as a depth CB and would benefit in a zone heavy scheme.
