Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Outstanding toughness, true definition of the word mauler. For a converted TE, uses hands spectacularly and constantly replaces. Instincts are adequate, can see blitzes late when doesn't keep his head up occasionally. Always plays right through the whistle and constantly looking for work.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Above the line explosiveness and speed, always firing out of stance and gaining ground quickly whether it be laterally or downhill. Average body control, often throws himself at defenders to try and block them, especially on down blocks, he doesn't make enough contact and ends up on the floor too much. Adequate flexibility, shows nice bend at the knees and allows him with his nice core strength to show off an impressive anchor. Change of direction is adequate, and his athletic ability is always on display in open space, climbing to the second and third levels effortlessly.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Pass Block - Jurgens shows an above the line anchor, with the mix of knee bend and core strength, he's hard to move off his spot. Hand strike in pass pro needs some work as he often aims too wide and "hooks" rather than punches too often. Footwork can also be cleaned up to allow his athleticism to shine even more, often takes false steps, but he does gain ground well when reach blocking and sealing the frontside of blocks. Run Block - needs to make more contact at the first level before climbing to LBs and onwards - however when he does get up to second and third level, he is outstanding as he never stops moving his feet, drives defenders 10, 15, 20 yards downfield and is an absolute finisher. Nebraska ask Jurgens to pull in pass pro and run block often and he struggles when attacked on the outside shoulder with speed rushers, but in run game when he can block with shoulder square to the DE/OLB, he is dominant.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Senior who started 31/32 games in his 3 years as a starter at Nebraska after making the transition from TE in his redshirt freshman year. Won multiple accolades during his time at Nebraska (Third-Team All-Big Ten - 2021, Nebraska Offensive Lineman of the Year - 2021, Academic All-Big Ten (2021, 2020, 2019). Light in the pants and doubts over how much weight he can add to frame while maintaining his current level of athleticism, while still having the functional play strength to cope in the NFL. Jurgens projects best in a zone-blocking scheme, but could work well in a gap scheme too with some development. Solid Day 2 pick up with great value, potentially very early Day 3.
