Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

Average overall AA, with above the line explosiveness, has enough athleticism to be a factor in the backfield. Average overall bend and cornering ability, has adequate bend at the ankles, with limited hip and knee flexibility. Limited backpedal and COD hurt his coverage capability, but he has adequate length and adequate speed to survive in the Curl/Flat zones. Average body control, play strength and anchor at the POA, struggles to hold ground and is susceptible to losing gap control inside and outside.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

Adequate edge get-off vs. Pass. Average pass rush repertoire: adequate inside shoot that utilizes his above the line twitch/suddenness is his most effective way to generate pressure, with pure-edge pursuit and an average swim move his only viable alternative. Average UOH in the pass rush, has adequate hand power but average timing, limited power, and placement inhibits his ability to create separation. Average rush angles and average closing speed. Limited overall run defender. Limited at the POA vs. Zone and Gap, and Poor vs. DBLs due to limited anchor and limited heavy hands, will frequently be fitted in the run game and has limited recourse to anchor and average ability to disengage. Average play temperament, is too patient especially in space and doesn’t decisively attack the ball; results in him being on the backfoot or sidestepped too often.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Markaviest (Big Kat) Bryant is a Graduate Senior Transfer at UCF who has featured in 60 career games. Four-star defensive end coming out of high school, rated No.189 in the nation by 247Sports. Started his career at Auburn, where he immediately featured as a true freshman in 2017, being named to the All-SEC Freshman team. Was a backup in 2018, before becoming a starter with only modest production in 2019 and 2020. Transferred to UCF for 2021, with his extra year of eligibility, and produced a career-best season featuring 14 TFLs and 7 sacks. Bryant projects as a situational, EDGE rusher in the NFL. His limitations in the run game and apparent issues with stamina/ motor likely prevent him from being an every-down starter but has enough twitch/ suddenness and explosiveness to create some pass rush on limited snaps.
