Build

Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?

Mental

Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?

Displays adequate instincts, above the line ability to diagnosing run vs pass quickly, displayed adequate ability to diagnose screens (vs Rutgers). Adequate toughness, fought through minor injuries throughout the season. Also evident in his anchor in the run game. Displays adequate effort/motor in his pursuit of QB and down field...Lines up too far back from the LOS, and shows average snap timing/anticipation. Had trouble reading the mesh points on read options and RPOs (vs MSU/Rutgers). Would like to see more consistent urgency/effort in the run game.

Athleticism

Does he have the athletic traits you want?

He displays above the line AA, with a combination of outstanding explosiveness and speed, above the line body control, COD, short area quickness. Displays above the line bend ability in the hips, knees, and ankles. Displays above the line play strength, which is evident by his ability to control TEs and ability to anchor vs OTs. Performed well against some of the premier talents at tackles in the BIG10 (Jaelyn Duncan, MSU, Michigan). He's a fluid athlete in space who projects as someone who can play in underneath zones.

Technical

Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?

He's developed well physically. A twitchy, explosive athlete who gets off the ball very quickly, and has above the line bend and body control to turn the corner. Has outstanding closing speed and has the play strength to secure tackles. Ebiketie can win as both a speed rusher and a power rusher due to his explosiveness, speed, above the line play strength, and adequate ability to manipulate the OTs leverage. Has adequate heavy hands that can displace OL hands to keep his chest free...He lines up too far off the LOS, and needs to improve his snap timing/anticipation. Also needs more of a pass rush plan, as he doesn't use his hands consistently enough. Needs to play with more consistent leverage. Will need to develop in coverage, due to lack of experience.

Summary

What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Ebiketie, a RS SR, transferred to Penn State last season from Temple and had a career year, seeing career highs in tackles, TFLs, and sacks. He has the ability to play in both a 2pt and a 3pt stance, but is more comfortable in a 2. His combination of outstanding explosiveness, speed and above the line COD offers a lot of upside to develop as a pass rusher. Ebiketie projects as a starting 3 down 3-4 OLB who you can win with, and displays pro bowl potential.
