Report: Bills QB Josh Allen Has Sprained UCL, Optimistic to Play Week 10

Josh Allen Bryce Huff Bills vs. Jets

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has sprained right elbow (UCL injury) that will limit him this week, NFL Media reported on Wednesday. Allen isn't guaranteed to play in this week's game against the Vikings, but there's optimism he can manage the pain and still start.

Bills coach Sean McDermott told reporters Allen is "day to day" and responded "we'll see" when asked directly if Allen would play on Sunday.

Allen suffered the injury late in the Bills' loss to the New York Jets last Sunday. He was hit by defensive end Bryce Huff on Buffalo's third-to-last play of the game while winding up to make a throw. The hit bent Allen's upper arm backward and forced the ball loose.

The quarterback was seen holding his elbow between plays as the Bills ran two more snaps — both passing plays, including one of almost 70 yards — before the game ended.

If Allen misses time, backup Case Keenum would start against the Vikings in Week 10. The Bills are 6-2 and first in the AFC East.

"If Case Keenum were to come in and run that offense, I think he would be just fine," The 33rd Team analyst Chase Daniel said. "He got a lot of play with the [first team] during the preseason. Sean McDermott did that on purpose."

Allen has not missed a start for the Bills since the 2019 season. He did miss four games as a rookie with a similar injury to his right elbow. Keenum is in his first season with the Bills and has attempted only seven passes this season. He has made 64 career starts, including two last year with Cleveland.
