Packers GM: Rodgers, Green Bay Have Not Talked; 'All Options On The Table'

Although Aaron Rodgers ended his darkness retreat last week, the Green Bay Packers are still in the dark about his plans, according to Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Gutekunst told reporters at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis the team has yet to speak with Rodgers at length since the end of the 2022 season.

“He’s a great player, but until we have those conversations, I think all options are on the table,” Gutekunst said. “We need to have those conversations. We want what’s best for the Green Bay Packers, what’s best for him, so we’ll get to that coming up.”

Gutenkunst added he's hoping for a resolution before free agency begins on March 15. If Rodgers does return to Green Bay next season, his contract will be restructured, Gutenkunst said.

Rodgers ended his three-day darkness retreat on Feb. 24, but he has not made any statements about whether he will play in 2023. Before heading on his retreat, Rodgers said in his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show that he'd decide whether to continue playing when he returned.

“That’s why it’s going to be important to get through this week and to take my isolation retreat and just to be able to contemplate all things my future and then be able to make a decision that I think is best for me moving forward and in the highest interest of my happiness and then move forward,” Rodgers told McAfee on Feb.7.

If Rodgers does decide to retire, Gutekunst is "absolutely" comfortable turning the offense over to Jordan Love. Longtime Packers beat reporter Bob McGinn reported the Packers are “done” and “disgusted” with Rodgers but excited about Love. While the Packers don't seem to be "done" with Rodgers, they seem to be high on Love's ability to lead the team this season.

There's also a chance Rodgers will ask for a trade before the start of the 2023 season. The New York Jets have reportedly contacted the Packers about potentially acquiring Rodgers.
