NFL Week 7 News and Notes

J.C. Jackson injury Chargers vs. Seahawks

Tuesday, Oct. 18

Myles Garrett's X-Rays Negative

With a key divisional game looming this weekend the Browns got good news on Tuesday as X-rays on Myles Garrett's injured shoulder came back negative, NFL Media reported. Garrett banged the shoulder during Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots, though coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game that Garrett would be OK.

The shoulder Garrett injured against the Patriots was the same one he sustained injuries to when he was involved in a car accident just three weeks ago.

Although his status for the Browns' Week 7 matchup with the Ravens is technically undecided, these recent development seem to indicate Garrett is trending toward playing.

Ravens Sign DeSean Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens signed veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson on Tuesday, according to ESPN. The Ravens are coming off a 24-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 6, and are likely looking to spark their offense after three straight weeks of 20 or fewer points scored.

The 35-year old Jackson was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He is a three-time Pro Bowl selection with over 11,000 career yards receiving and over 60 total touchdowns in his 14-year career.

Jackson was most recently a member of the Los Angeles Rams and Las Vegas Raiders. The Ravens will be the seventh team Jackson has appeared for in his professional career.

Chargers K Dustin Hopkins Out 2-4 Weeks

The Los Angeles Chargers will be without kicker Dustin Hopkins for at least the next 2-4 weeks, coach Brandon Staley told reporters on Tuesday.

Hopkins suffered a hamstring injury during the team's Monday night win over the Denver Broncos. Hopkins kicked the game-winning field goal despite being limited by the aforementioned hamstring injury.

The 4-2 Chargers will take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7 at SoFi Stadium.

Wilson's Injury Potentially Significant

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson suffered a potentially significant hamstring injury in his team's overtime loss to the Chargers on Monday night, NFL Media reported.

"I got my hammy, I kinda scrambled and moved around on one, I had to throw it away," Wilson said following Monday's game. "It got me pretty good in the fourth quarter. Just tried to play through it and all that. I felt good moving around, running around, throwing it, and everything else, especially early on, and then that happened. So that was a little unfortunate, but, ya know, trying to find a way to win a game."

Wilson was already suffering from a shoulder injury, which he had surgery for last week. The Broncos are 2-4 and are quickly falling behind in a competitive AFC West. Denver plays the Jets at home this coming Sunday.

Ryan Suffers Jones Fracture

Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran defensive back Logan Ryan suffered a Jones fracture in his foot against the Steelers on Sunday, NFL Media reported. Ryan will get surgery on his foot tomorrow.

Ryan will head to injured reserve but plans to return either late in the season or during a potential Buccaneers playoff run.

Pickett Will Play if Cleared

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett remains in concussion protocol but will play against the Dolphins this week if cleared, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday. Tomlin added that Pickett's practice work wouldn't be limited.

Pickett left Pittsburgh's win against the Buccaneers in the second half and was replaced by Mitch Trubisky, who completed the upset victory. Pittsburgh is 2-4 and will have to travel to Miami for the team's Sunday night showdown this week. If Pickett can't go, Trubisky will almost certainly get the starting nod.

Kelce Gets Restructured Contract

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce restructured his contract converting some base salary into a signing bonus, ESPN reported. This move will free up $3.455 million in cap space for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs had $211,154 dollars in cap space prior to the move, according to Over the Cap. This move could free up the Chiefs to add a free agent or make a trade prior to the NFL's trade deadline on Nov. 1.

Cobb Out Multiple Weeks

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb will miss multiple weeks with an ankle injury, ESPN reported. Cobb left the Packers' Week 6 loss against the Jets on a cart and was feared to have suffered a potentially season-ending injury.

However, further tests on Monday revealed Cobb's injury was not as bad as originally thought, meaning he will return at some point this season. The Packers have struggled to move the ball through the air, and Cobb was their leading receiver. Now, they'll have to lean even more on rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.

Walker Retires a Titan

Former 49ers and Titan tight end Delanie Walker officially retired on Tuesday morning, the Titans announced. Walker spent sent seven seasons with the Titans, made three Pro Bowls and was a four-time captain.

Walker, a former sixth-round pick in the 2006 NFL draft, finished his career with 504 receptions for 5,888 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also ranks second in Titans' history for receptions by a tight end. From 2013-17 no NFL tight end had more receptions than Walker.
