NFL Week 6 News and Notes

Monday, Oct. 17

Broncos Activate Justin Simmons

The Denver Broncos activate safety Justin Simmons for their Monday Night Football showdown against the Chargers.

Simmons suffered a quad injury during the team's Week 1 loss to the Seahawks in Seattle and was placed on injured reserve. The Broncos take on the Chargers Monday night at SoFi Stadium, looking to improve their record to 3-3 with a win against Justin Herbert's Los Angeles squad.

Denver is coming off a tough loss to the Colts in Week 5 on Thursday night. The team lost 12-9 in overtime, the lack of offense causing frustration and consternation in the Broncos' fan base.

Cardinals Activate Deandre Hopkins

Deandre Hopkins returned to practice for the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, and has officially been activated to the 53-man roster.

Hopkins is returning from a six-game suspension for PED use, and according to reports, the star wide receiver has kept in excellent shape hoping to return to action as quickly as possible.

Hopkins’ return couldn't come soon enough for a 2-4 Cardinals team coming off a divisional loss at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals offense managed only nine points scored in their Week 6 contest and will likely need to put more points on the board to walk away with a win Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints.

Marquise Brown Will Miss Significant Time With Foot Injury

While the Arizona Cardinals initially feared that they had lost starting receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown for the season due to a foot injury according to an ESPN report, sources told NFL media that the fracture was "non-surgical" and that the timeline for recovery would be "about 6 weeks." The report also stated that Brown will receive a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson before moving forward.

This news comes just as superstar receiver Deandre Hopkins is slated to return from suspension. Combining Hopkins and Brown would have given the Cardinals a formidable duo of receivers heading into the heart of the season, but they will have to wait to see the duo. For now, Arizona will rely on Hopkins and new trade addition Robbie Anderson to fill the void Brown will leave behind.

Cardinals Lose LG Justin Pugh for Season

The Arizona Cardinals are likely to be without starting left guard Justin Pugh for the rest of the 2022 NFL season, according to NFL Media. Pugh will undergo further testing, however, it appears likely that the former New York Giants offensive lineman suffered a season-ending knee injury. The injuries for the Cardinals continue to mount as the team prepares to welcome back superstar receiver Deandre Hopkins and tries to right the ship in a talented NFC West division.

Rams' Joseph Noteboom Tears Achilles

Los Angeles Rams left tackle Joseph Noteboom tore his Achilles on Sunday, according to ESPN. Noteboom will miss the rest of the 2022 NFL regular season as he recovers from the injury. Noteboom stepped in as the starter following the retirement of NFL legend Andrew Whitworth. The Rams improved to 3-3 with a win over the Panthers on Sunday, but are now faced with the challenge of (yet again) finding a blindside protector for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Buccaneers' Cameron Brate Flew Home With Team, In Good Spirits After Being Stretchered Off

Cameron Brate is reportedly in good spirits with news that his follow-up scans were negative. He flew home with the team following their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Brate was stretchered off the field and ruled out of Sunday's game with what coach Todd Bowles called a neck injury after the game. Brate was conscious and gave the fans a thumbs-up as he was getting carted off, and the Buccaneers reported he had movement in all his extremities. Brate took a shot to the helmet after making a catch over the middle of the field and went down immediately. The tight end missed a game earlier this season with a concussion.

Tennessee Titans Release Josh Gordon

The Tennessee Titans released former star wide receiver, Josh Gordon, from their practice squad on Monday, according to NFL Media. Despite his tremendous talent, Gordon has struggled to find stability in his NFL career. Unfortunately for the explosive playmaker, he appears to have run his course with another franchise after being released Monday. Since 2019 Gordon has spent time with the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans.

Texans Part Ways with Executive Vice President Jack Easterby

The Houston Texans parted ways with executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby on Monday, according to ESPN.

Easterby was hired by the team in 2019 as EVP of team development after serving as a team chaplain and character coach in New England from 2013-2018. Easterby made the unprecedented move to football operations in 2020 earning a major voice in team-related decisions and strategy after earning the trust of Houston's ownership group.

Easterby survived a general manager regime change — as the team brought in Nick Caserio in 2021 — and a coaching change when Lovie Smith took control of the team this offseason. Though he has maintained his role as a trusted advisor through a great deal of internal turmoil, it appears relationships may have finally soured.

New Stadium on the Way in Tennessee?

The Tennessee Titans and Nashville Mayor John Cooper reached an agreement to build the team a new, domed stadium in the Nashville area, according to Axios. The new stadium, which could cost up to $2.2 billion, would replace Nissan Stadium, the current home of the Titans which opened in 1999. The domed proposal would give Nashville the means to host attractive events like the College Football Playoff, winter concerts, and even — potentially — the Super Bowl. The team now awaits the go-ahead from the city's Metro Council before continuing with the project.
