NFL Week 10 News & Notes

Monday, Nov. 7

Panthers Stick With Walker

The Carolina Panthers are sticking with PJ Walker at quarterback for their Thursday night game against the Atlanta Falcons, coach Steve Wilks told reporters on Monday.

Walker was benched in the team’s Week 8 loss to the Bengals after completing three-of-10 passes for nine yards and two interceptions. He was replaced by Baker Mayfield, who finished the game with 155 yards, two passing touchdowns and three total scoring drives.

Giants Safety Injured on Bye Week

New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney announced on Twitter he injured his hand while spending the Giants’ bye week in Cabo, Mexico, and will miss a “few weeks.” McKinney said the injury occurred while he was taking part in a sight-seeing tour on an ATV.

The Giants play the Texans this coming Sunday, and they’ll now be looking for their seventh win of the season without one of their more talented, young defenders.

Packers Lose Defensive Stud

Green Bay Packers pass rusher Rashan Gary suffered a torn ACL in the team’s loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, NFL Media confirmed. Gary was carted off the field and was later ruled out with a knee injury. Gary still needs to have an MRI to confirm the injury.

The former first-round pick from Michigan has six sacks this season and has been a bright spot during an otherwise forgettable season for the Packers.

Panthers Fire Multiple Position Coaches, Activate Darnold

The Carolina Panthers fired cornerbacks coach Evan Cooper and defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni, the team announced on Monday. These moves come off the heels of a Panthers 42-21 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals, who they trailed 35-0 at halftime.

Interim head coach Steve Wilks has already fired other assistant coaches since taking over for Matt Rhule on Oct. 10. He’s fired former defensive coordinator Phil Snow and special teams assistant coach Ed Foley.

Besides firing coaches, the Panthers also activated quarterback Sam Darnold from injured reserve on Monday. Darnold hasn’t been active since the team’s final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills when he suffered an ankle injury.
