Mitch Trubisky Named Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1 Starter, Pickett as Backup
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin officially named Mitch Trubisky as the team's starting quarterback for Week 1 in a press conference on Tuesday. Trubisky was listed atop the team's first official depth chart on Monday, with Mason Rudolph as his backup. Rookie QB Kenny Pickett was listed ahead of Mason Rudolph as the team's official backup when the depth chart was clarified on Tuesday.
Mike Tomlin: "Mitch Trubisky is our starting quarterback and our captain. He's a guy who came to us with franchise quarterback experience if you will. His athleticism and mobility were attractive to us. He took care of the football in-stadium."
Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher predicted that Trubisky's experience would win him the job in early August.
Los Angeles Rams Restructure Tyler Higbee's Contract
The Los Angeles Rams converted $4.75 million of tight end Tyler Higbee’s base salary into a signing bonus, according to ESPN. The Rams added three void years to Higbee’s contract to complete the move and free up $3.8 million in cap space for the 2022 season.
New York Giants, Leonard Williams Restructure deal
The New York Giants opened up cap space by converting $17.88 million of defensive lineman Leonard Williams' contract into a signing bonus. The move, which adds a void year to the deal, will free up $11.92 million in cap space for the 2022 season, according to ESPN.
