New York Jets Sign Kwon Alexander

The New York Jets have signed linebacker Kwon Alexander to a one-year deal. Alexander will be teaming up with his old 49ers defensive coordinator and current head coach of the New York Jets, Robert Saleh. This connection will be a bonus as he looks to make the Jets' 53-man roster. The Jets are coming off a 4-13 season and are looking to improve upon that this year.

"When healthy, he's a really good player," said Mike Tannenbaum, former NFL executive and founder of The 33rd Team. "Durability has always been his biggest challenge, but—depending on the contract details—the risk/reward for signing a player of his caliber in late July makes a lot of sense."

Jets Defensive Additions

It is no secret that the Jets went into this offseason with a plan to improve their defense. New York made a splash by selecting the University of Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner with the fourth overall pick in this year's draft. Gardner was among the highest-rated cornerbacks in this year's draft class and had high expectations from himself and the harsh New York fan base.

The Jets have also beefed up their defensive line this off-season by signing defensive ends; Micheal Clemons and Carl Lawson. As well as linebacker Jake Martin and defensive back Craig James. Assuming Alexander stays healthy and makes the 53-man roster, he will be a welcomed addition to this group.

Kwon Alexander’s Career

Alexander was a fourth-round pick in the 2015 draft out of LSU. He began his career in Tampa Bay before stopping in San Francisco and New Orleans. Alexander has under 500 career tackles, 12 sacks, and eight interceptions. Alexander has had several injuries over his career, including an ACL tear in 2018 and an Achilles tear in 2020. The soon-to-be 28-year-old has a big chance to rejuvenate his career in New York this season.
