Kliff Kingsbury is Excited about Hollywood Brown

Murray and Brown

Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury sounds like he has big plans for wide receiver Hollywood Brown.

The Arizona Cardinals’ offense sputtered to end the year, and they can’t afford for that to happen again. DeAndre Hopkins being suspended for six games was a blow to the offense. There is still optimism thanks to General Manager Steve Keim trading for Marquise “Hollywood” Brown this offseason. Kyler Murray and Brown will be imperative in ensuring the Cardinals don’t suffer the same late-season fate they did a year ago.

The first night of the NFL Draft saw many trades. One of the most shocking moves was the Ravens sending Brown to the Cardinals. The move had been in the works for weeks with both parties keeping quiet so it didn’t fall through. Now, with Hollywood Brown and Kyler Murray reuniting from their time in college, Kingsbury is excited.

Familiarity with each other

When talking with the media during his opening press conference for training camp, Kingsbury said he expects Brown to be a “big part” of the Cardinals’ offense.

This should come as no surprise even without the Hopkins suspension affecting things. Murray won the Heisman, became the first overall pick and Brown was selected later in the first round with help from their strong connection former at Oklahoma.

Kingsbury is already noticing just how comfortable the pairing is right now.

“I would say his comfort level is farther ahead than he would be having played at OU in a similar type system,” Kingsbury said. “He has tremendous speed. We feel like the comfort level he has with Kyler–he throws with him all the time—is a great kind of bonus to that icing on the cake.”

Looking ahead

That work they have put in together should hold them together throughout the season and beyond.

If Brown can show that he can help Murray and this Cardinals’ offense keep their rhythm all year long, then he might get an extension this offseason. Brown is under contract through the next two seasons after the team picked up his fifth-year option. So, the contract isn’t an issue now. It can become one in a hurry.

Training camp reps will be used to rekindle the Sooners’ connection that saw Murray find Brown for 75 receptions, 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns. If they get anywhere that production, then this Cardinals offense could be one of the best in the NFL.
