Green Bay Packers Restructure Star Running Back Aaron Jones' Contract
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has restructured his contract and will be back for his seventh season with the club in 2023, per an ESPN report.
Originally slated to pull in $16 million in 2023, Jones will now take a $5 million reduction in salary greatly benefiting a Packers team that will be jumping salary cap hoops all offseason. As part of the reworked deal, Jones converted a previous roster bonus to an $8.52 million signing bonus.
In 2021, the now 28-year-old running back signed a four-year, $48 million dollar contract. Rather than release Jones, this restructure allows the Packers to keep him around for the remaining two years of the contract.

This is likely the first in a long line of contract restructures the Packers will be negotiating in the early portion of the offseason as they potentially enter the 2023 season with a new quarterback.
Whether Green Bay starts Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love under center next season, Jones believes the Packers will be in good hands.
“Jordan Love is ready. Jordan Love will be that guy,” Jones told Fox Sports’ Undisputed while making rounds with media at the Super Bowl in Phoenix. “He made a huge jump this year.”
The Packers are reportedly "disgusted" and "done" with Rodgers, but are bullish on starting Love in 2023.
Rodgers said he'll make a decision on whether he wants to play next season after his four-day "darkness" retreat, but teams like the New York Jets have already started inquiring about Rodgers' trade availability.
A stabilizing force for Green Bay's offense, Jones is coming off the third 1,000-yard season of his career and has averaged 5.1 yards per carry in his six seasons.
