DeAndre Hopkins Is Paying Attention to Trade Rumors

DeAndre Hopkins is preparing to play for the Arizona Cardinals this season ... for now.

On Wednesday, the star wide receiver spoke about his future in Arizona and how he's reacting to being included in trade rumors.

"I've been hearing a lot of trade talks, but I take things day-for-day," Hopkins said on the Pat McAfee Show. "I don't look forward to the future. I live in the present moment. Right now, the Arizona Cardinals is the team and the roster I'm on, and I'm preparing for whatever the future holds."

Hopkins did not provide details when asked if there were any deadlines in his contract that would complicate a trade or if he's had communication with the Cardinals about a trade. However, he is paying attention to the "headlines and tabloids."

"When you hear some of those trade rumors, you hate to think all of those things are lies," Hopkins said. "I've been traded before, and I heard speculation about it. I kind of shooed it off before. I said, 'the Texans would never trade me.' And next thing you know, here I am going to the Cardinals. We keep close attention to the tabloids, but we don't put anything in the tabloids."

Hopkins has two years left on his contract and has no remaining guaranteed money. If he's traded, Hopkins is willing to be flexible on restructuring the last two years of his deal, NFL Media reported.

Arizona might want to move on from Hopkins after hiring new general manager Monti Ossenfort and coach Jonathan Gannon this offseason. The Cardinals are coming off a 4-13 season, and quarterback Kyler Murray will likely miss at least half of 2023 recovering from a torn ACL.

Hopkins should have many suitors if the Cardinals start taking offers on him. He's eclipsed 100 receptions four times and scored 11 or more touchdowns three times in his career. He did miss six games due to a suspension for PED use and two games with an injury last season.

Tank Williams, an analyst for The 33rd Team, believes the New England Patriots make sense for Hopkins.

"The Patriots need some playmakers on the offensive side of the ball," Williams said. "They have a solid run game, but it seems like they haven't been able to hit on a No. 1 wide receiver for a long time. So, if you can't do it through the draft, and you may not be able to do it through free agency because those guys aren't out there this year, maybe you have to make yourself a trade."
