Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is questionable to return to Saturday's Divisional Round game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with an ankle injury, the team announced.

Mahomes' X-rays were negative, but he appears to have a high ankle sprain, NFL Media reported.

Mahomes was rolled up on late in the first quarter by Jaguars edge rusher Arden Key, who was pursuing Mahomes from behind as Mahomes tried to make a throw downfield.

Mahomes tried to stay in the game after getting his ankle taped up and led the Chiefs to a field goal, allowing them to take a 10-7 lead before he was eventually forced to go into the locker room. Mahomes showed visible frustration when Chiefs coach Andy Reid and Kansas City's athletic trainer told him he needed to be checked out in the locker room.

Chad Henne replaced Mahomes on the ensuing Chiefs' drive and took Kansas City 98 yards down the field for a touchdown, making the score 17-7 Chiefs. Henne hasn't made a start since 2020, and he attempted just two passes this season in relief duty.
