Cardinals Down to Finalists in Head Coach Search

One of the two remaining head coach positions is expected to be filled in the near future. The Arizona Cardinals started informing candidates in their search they are not among the finalists for the team's open position, ESPN reported late Sunday.

Though other names could be among the finalists, the three known names currently in the picture for the team are Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, Steelers defensive assistant Brian Flores and Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. Those three are among a double-digit list of candidates the Cardinals have spoken with or requested interviews with since letting go of former coach Kilff Kingsbury a month ago.

Earlier on Sunday, NFL Media reported Flores was in line to receive a second interview with the team, continuing a busy stretch for him as he remains a front-runner for the Broncos' and Vikings' defensive coordinator positions. Flores was also a candidate for the Arizona job in 2018 prior to Kingsbury's hire, later being hired as the Dolphins' head coach.

Kafka is also in the running for another position as one of many candidates in the Colts' head coaching search. Anarumo is a late entry to the Cardinals' search, having still been coaching with the Bengals as the team played its way to the AFC Championship.

Among the candidates informed they are not a finalist for the job are Bengals offensive coordinator Ben Callahan, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

Panthers Hire Evero as DC

In the same weekend the Denver Broncos released him from his contract, Ejiro Evero has landed with the Carolina Panthers as their defensive coordinator, per NFL Media. Evero interviewed with the Panthers earlier in the offseason for their opening at head coach.

He earned interest from several teams, namely the Vikings, Cardinals and Colts, for both head coach and defensive coordinator openings.

Denver already put in requests to interview candidates from other teams for the defensive coordinator position prior to parting ways with Evero. The team has asked to interview Steelers senior defensive assistant Brian Flores and Seahawks associate head coach Sean Desai for the coordinator job.
