2023 NFL Coaching Updates: Latest News, Rumors and Buzz

Friday, Feb. 10

Texans Expected to Hire Matt Burke as Defensive Coordinator

The Houston Texans are expected to hire Arizona Cardinals defensive line coach Matt Burke as their new head coach, NFL Media reported. Burke will join new coach DeMeco Ryans' staff in Houston for what the Texans hope is the start of a new, more successful era.

The 2022 season was Burke's first year in Arizona, but he brings over 15 years of NFL coaching experience to the job and could help lay the foundation for a solid defense with the support of Ryans, widely considered one of the NFL's best defensive minds.

Texans Talk With Kliff Kingsbury About Job

The Houston Texans are talking with former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury about a job on new coach DeMeco Ryans' staff, ESPN reported.

Kingsbury was fired by the Cardinals following the 2022 NFl season after failing to meet expectations as head coach in Arizona.

Cardinals to Meet Anarumo Friday

The Arizona Cardinals will meet with Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo for a second time on Friday, NFL Media reported, as they continue to search for a new head coach. The Cardinals fired coach Kliff Kingsbury after a disappointing and tumultuous 2022 NFL season.

Anarumo has earned wide respect across the league for getting the most from his players and preparing his team well against the league's best offenses. In 2022 Anarumo's Bengals allowed just 19.6 points per game, sixth best mark in the NFL.

As their search for the right fit continues, the Cardinals are not expected to make a move until after the Super Bowl.

Jaguars Hiring Hall

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hiring Bills assistant Chad Hall to serve as the team's new wide receivers coach, NFL Media reported.

Hall's contract was up in Buffalo, and he'll join Doug Pederson's staff to lead a strong group of receivers, including Christian Kirk and, presumably, Calvin Ridley.

Reich, Panthers Make Additions to Staff

The Carolina Panthers are hiring Dom Capers to join Frank Reich's staff as a senior defensive assistant, NFL Media reported. Capers joins defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in coming over from the Broncos with whom he coached alongside previously in 2022.

Josh McCown will also join Reich's staff after having a 17-year career with nine different teams. He previously played for the Panthers from 2008 to 2009 and this will be his first coaching experience in the NFL.
