Texans Hiring 49ers Slowik as OC

New Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is expected to hire 49ers passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik to be his offensive coordinator, per NFL Media. Slowik and Ryans were in San Francisco together as defensive quality control coaches.

Slowik has been in the NFL for the last 10 years, beginning as a video assistant with the Washington Redskins when Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator there. Slowik lost his job in Washington when Shanahan was fired. He spent two years as an analyst for Pro Football Focus, then joined Shanahan in San Francisco in 2017.

Slowik began his coaching career in earnest on defense with the 49ers. He switched to the offensive side of the ball in 2019 and has slowly risen through the ranks.

Super Bowl Coaches in High Demand

The Arizona Cardinals are planning to interview Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon for their head coach position on Monday, per NFL Media. But Gannon is not the only coach in Sunday's Super Bowl garnering interest from teams. Eagles quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson will interview for the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator position, and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is a candidate for the openings at offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders and Baltimore Ravens.

Report: Broncos' Payton Interviewed Rex Ryan for DC

The Denver Broncos new head coach is turning over some old stones to help fill out his staff. Per Fox Sports, Sean Payton reportedly interviewed Rex Ryan for the defensive coordinator position. Ryan rose to prominence as the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens before becoming the head coach of the New York Jets from 2009-2014 and the Buffalo Bills from 2015-2016. Since then, he has served as an analyst for ESPN.

Ryan has not coached since 2016, but Payton has some familiarity with him, at least by relation. Ryan's twin brother, Rob, served as the Saints' defensive coordinator under Payton from 2013-2015.
