Fantasy Fallout of Breece Hall, DK Metcalf Injuries and More

dk metcalf

Spoiler alert: This week was rough. We had four injuries to fantasy stars, three injuries to additional fantasy relevant players, and four injuries to non-fantasy relevant players that should affect their teammates going forward.

For each injury, I outline not only the injury, but how this affects other skill players on the team moving forward for fantasy purposes.

Injuries to Fantasy Stars

Breece Hall

  • Hall suffered a likely ACL tear during his Week 7 game against Denver.
  • Michael Carter is likely rostered already in your fantasy leagues. He likely gives you 10-15 carries and 3-4 targets per week moving forward and is a fringe Top-20 option each week.
  • Ty Johnson should be picked up on waivers, as he's the next man up after Carter.
  • Johnson is a competent pass-catcher with big play ability, but has yet to fully earn any team's trust on a weekly basis.
    • Expect 5-10 touches per game from Johnson as the lesser part of an unsexy committee.

DK Metcalf

  • Metcalf suffered a potentially serious knee injury in Week 7 against the Chargers. Fantasy owners may have escaped total disaster as Pete Carroll told reporters that initial X-Rays on Metcalf's knee were negative, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
  • Tyler Lockett gains minimal value, and is still a top-20 option rest of season.
    • His targets likely increase slightly, but the overall Seahawks offense should steeply decline if Metcalf misses an extended period of time.
  • I would leave SEA WRs Marquise Goodwin and Dee Eskridge on waivers, as they are unlikely to be worth high waiver priority or any decent chunk of your FAAB.
  • Metcalf's injury opens the door for Noah Fant to sneak into weekly top-12 range at TE, as he has a history of near 20% target shares from his time in Denver.

Mike Williams

  • Big Mike has a sprained right ankle, and it's likely a serious one after getting carted off in Week 7 against SEA.
  • Should Williams miss significant time, make sure to pick up WR Josh Palmer off waivers.
    • Palmer missed Week 7 with a concussion and LAC has a Week 8 bye, so he will be dropped in many leagues.
    • Palmer profiles as a WR3 type as the de facto WR2 in LAC.
    • Palmer has eight or more targets in three of six games this season.
  • WR DeAndre Carter should also be rostered in most leagues, as he could have flex viability as the LAC WR3 behind Keenan Allen and Palmer.

Amon-Ra St. Brown

  • St. Brown left Week 7 early with a concussion.
  • He has a chance to return as early as Week 8.
  • Should St. Brown miss Week 8, make sure WRs Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond are not on waivers.
  • D.J. Chark is on IR, so Reynolds/Raymond may be the top-2 options in Week 8 against a weak MIA secondary.

Injuries to Fantasy Relevant Players

Allen Lazard

  • Lazard has an undisclosed shoulder injury.
  • Should he miss any time, Romeo Doubs and Robert Tonyan should be rostered in all formats.
    • Doubs has Top-20 upside if Lazard is OUT for Week 8's battle in Buffalo.
    • Tonyan should be a fringe top-12 TE option in Week 8 if Lazard misses time.
  • Sammy Watkins should be rostered in deeper leagues, but is likely giving you 4-12 fantasy points most weeks.

David Njoku

  • Njoku sprained his ankle in Week 7 against Baltimore.
  • Reports are this ankle injury is "not serious".
  • Assuming Njoku misses at least the next couple games, TE Harrison Bryant can be started in his absence.
    • Bryant has four games this season with at least four targets, even though he's been backing up Njoku.

Corey Davis

  • Davis sprained his MCL (knee) in Week 7 against Denver.
  • Assuming he misses time, this slightly boosts Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore.
    • If Moore is on waivers, I would scoop him for up to 10% of your FAAB.
  • The Jets are a team in flux, as star RB Breece Hall's ACL injury should force the offense to shift to a more pass-focused gameplan.
    • Zach Wilson has thrown for 231 combined yards over the past two weeks, so NYJ really would need a massive shift in pass rate for both Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore to become every-week starters in fantasy.
  • WR Braxton Berrios can remain on waivers.

Injuries to Non-Fantasy Relevant Players

Ryan Tannehill

Ryan Tannehill (17) throws a pass against IND during the 3rd quarter at Nissan Stadium.
  • Tannehill was spotted in a walking boot after the Titans' Week 7 win against the Colts.
  • Should Tannehill miss any time, rookie QB Malik Willis is a priority streamer against Houston in Week 8.
    • Willis ran for over 1,800 combined yards in the 2020 and 2021 college seasons.
    • I'd expect 8-12 rush attempts per game from Willis - a la Jalen Hurts - if he does get the start over an injured Tannehill.

Chuba Hubbard

  • Hubbard left in the fourth quarter in Week 7 against Tampa Bay.
  • Should Hubbard miss time, D'Onta Foreman is in line for 15-20 carries each game, with minimal pass game usage.
  • No other CAR RB needs to be rostered at this time.

Nico Collins

  • Collins suffered a groin injury in Week 7 against the Raiders.
  • Should Collins miss time due to injury, Brandin Cooks should see a slight target bump, and would enter fringe top-24 WR territory.
  • No other HOU WR merits consideration on waivers if Collins misses Week 8 and beyond.

Mike Boone

  • Boone suffered an ankle injury in Week 7 against the Jets.
  • Should Boone miss any time, this has minimal impact on Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray.
    • Neither is a strong start moving forward, and both profile as borderline top-36 RB options most weeks.
