Week 7 Discipline Index: Can the Colts Get Back on Track with Discipline?

After being on top of the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index since Week 2, the Los Angeles Rams are no longer the leaders of the Discipline Index. Instead, there is a new sheriff in town in the form of the Indianapolis Colts who are finally starting to look like the team at the end of the 2020 NFL Season.

Here is how the top-10 of our Discipline Index unfolds this week:

As a reminder, the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index combines the number of penalties, penalty yardage and turnovers on a per-game basis in order to show which teams are able to play the most mistake-free football in any given week.

The Indianapolis Colts are starting to get on a roll as they have gone 2-1 in their past three games. Although their wins came against the Dolphins and the Texans, the Colts were a missed field goal away from defeating the Baltimore Ravens, who are one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

Frank Reich has run a disciplined team up to this point, but it was unable to affect the scoreboard in a positive manner. Now that the Colts are starting to get to an easier part of their schedule, they are starting to play like the team that people had grown accustomed to at the end of last season. The game against the Ravens proved that this team can still compete with some of the better teams in the league.

On the season, the Colts have only turned the ball over five times, which trails only the Raiders for the least amount of turnovers in the NFL. They are tied with the Rams for the least amount of penalties in the league with only 24. In Week 7, the Colts will take on the 49ers on Sunday Night Football for a chance to prove that they are very much a contender in the AFC playoff race.
