Jason Kelce Will Return to Eagles for 2023 Season
After considering retirement, center Jason Kelce has decided he's not done quite yet. Kelce took to Twitter to announce he'd return to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2023 season on Monday.
"I have put much thought into whether it makes sense to play another season," Kelce wrote. "After talking it over with my wife and many other friends and family, I have decided to return for another year. Thank you to all my supporters and detractors for fueling me; I ain’t f---ing done yet!"
Kelce signed a one-year, $9 million guaranteed contract last season, according to Spotrac, but was unsure if he would return for his age-35 season. The center has started in 134 straight games, the second longest-active streak in the NFL behind fellow offensive lineman Jake Matthews.
Kelce was a huge part of the Eagles' first Super Bowl win in 2018, and he was a large part of the team's run to the Super Bowl this past season. Philadelphia's offense ranked fifth in both total rushing yards and rushing yards per game this season.
The long-time center returning for another season is a massive boost to an Eagles team slated to lose a lot of key free agents. On the offensive line, guard Isaac Seumalo is expecting to sign elsewhere. On defense, the Eagles could lose safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and cornerback James Bradberry, and they already lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who signed with the San Francisco 49ers Monday, and linebacker T.J. Edwards, who signed with the Chicago Bears.
