NFL Offseason Fixer-Uppers: How Titans Can Improve in 2023
Analysis 2/16/23
In an ongoing offseason series, experts from The 33rd Team offer three things each team can do to improve in 2023.
AFC: BAL | CIN | CLE | HOU | IND | JAX | KC | LAC | LV | MIA | NE | NYJ | PIT
NFC: ATL | CAR | DAL | DET | GB | LAR | MIN | NYG | PHI | SEA | SF | TB
The Tennessee Titans have several things to address to improve next season, and I think they already addressed one of them.
3 Ways to Improve Titans
1. Hiring Ran Carthon as General Manager
Ran Carthon was a great hire for the Titans, just from his coming from the San Francisco 49ers and seeing some of the pieces they put together, seeing what mindset they had, where 'I don't care if we have two or three pieces already, we're going to continue to add.' They added Christian McCaffrey when they already had a Super Bowl-caliber roster.
I think hiring Carthon is going to be a good thing for the Titans. Carthon played running back, so he knows the team's type of offense, the best parts of that offense, so he knows what needs to happen, what type of guys need brought in to help Derrick Henry.
2. Add a New Quarterback
Tennessee has to bring in a quarterback that can throw the ball all over the field. It's no knock on Ryan Tannehill, I just don't feel like he fits the Titans' offense.
3. Make a Splash Add at Receiver
I already said the Titans need a quarterback, but they need somebody outside, too. I don't feel like the Titans should handle this in the draft, they should handle it in free agency or with some type of trade.

As far as defense, the front seven on defense has been playing amazing, they could add a cornerback and it would help get this team right back to where it needs to be. They were supposed to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars and make the playoffs this past year, but I think the team is right there. In the AFC South with Jacksonville, who had a good year, the Houston Texans, who I don't think can beat Tennessee year in, year out, and the Indianapolis Colts, who I also don't think can beat Tennessee, the Titans can win.
If it's left up to Jacksonville and Tennessee again, I don't think the Jaguars win. The division is right there for the Titans' taking. If they do these things, they will be right back to where they have been the last few years as an AFC contender. With head coach Mike Vrabel, they always have a chance.
