Week 10 Discipline Index: Bills’ Penalties Are Holding Them Back

Week 10 Discipline Index

Once again, the Los Angeles Rams have been dethroned from the top of the Discipline Index after suffering a loss at home to the Derrick Henry-less Tennessee Titans. Despite also suffering a loss in Week 9, the Green Bay Packers were able to take over the top spot with a strong effort against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here is how the top-10 looks in the Discipline Index for this week:

As a reminder, the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index combines the number of penalties, penalty yardage and turnovers on a per-game basis in order to show which teams are able to play the most mistake-free football in any given week.

The Buffalo Bills appear to be trending in the wrong direction after an upset loss on the road to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills dropped 12 spots in the Discipline Index after this loss, and they have gone 1-2 in their past three games with two of those losses coming to teams in the AFC South.

After cruising to a win over the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, it truly looked like the Bills were the top team in the AFC; however, the Bills did not look anything like themselves against the Jaguars as they failed to reach the end zone, had two turnovers, and had 12 penalties for 118 yards. Buffalo now has the second-most penalties per game and third-most penalty yards per game.

It is certainly too early to hit the panic button on this good of a team, but the Bills need to play a more disciplined brand of football in order to get back to their prior ways. The Bills have a prime matchup against the New York Jets in Week 10 to get back on track after an uncharacteristic loss.

It is also worth noting that the Los Angeles Chargers rebounded in a huge way against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9, as they rose 10 spots in our Discipline Index.

Although the Chargers had to squeak out a win against the pesky Eagles, they did play disciplined football as they only had 4 penalties for 30 yards and no turnovers. This was a much different performance than in Week 9 against the Patriots, resulting in the Chargers being in first place in the AFC West once again.
