The Friday Five: David Pollack

The Friday Five: David Pollack

David Pollack has been an ESPN college football analyst since 2009. A former three-time All-American linebacker and first round pick out of the University of Georgia, Pollack suffered a career-ending injury in his second NFL season before pivoting to a successful career as an analyst. He was enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

We caught up with David for this week’s Friday Five…

1) Who is your biggest mentor?

My biggest mentors are Dr. Merrit, Coach Mark Richt, and Pastor J.

2) After your 2006 injury and subsequent rehabilitation, how close did you come to playing again?

I definitely considered it. I rehabbed with the intent on coming back, but I knew if I was at more risk to get hurt because of my injury, I wouldn't be able to play again.

I could have forced the issue and played, but I would have been at more risk because of the metal in my neck that creates less range of motion.

3) What’s been the biggest surprise of the 2021 college season?

The most surprising thing in my opinion has been the sheer amount of parity that has returned to the game. Usually at this point, 2-to-3 teams are already locked in to the College Football Playoff around Week 5.

This year??? No way. Week to week. Dang awesome.

4 )What do you think about possible College Football Expansion?

It’s going to happen. It is just a matter of time.

At this point it needs to happen. The more teams that are in the hunt, the more players will continue to play for their teams.

5) If you could invite any three people in history to dinner, who would they be?

I would have dinner with Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., and my pops.
