The Friday Five: Cassius Marsh

The Friday Five: Cassius Marsh

Cassius Marsh is an 8-year NFL veteran Outside Linebacker who currently plays for the Chicago Bears. A fourth round draft pick out of UCLA in 2014, he has played for 8 different teams across his career. In addition to his work in the NFL, Marsh doubles as a majority owner of a trading card company, Cash Cards Unlimited, in Westlake Village, California.

We caught up with Cassius for this week’s Friday Five…

1) Who is your biggest mentor?

To be honest I haven't had any one I’d call a real mentor. I’ve learned a lot from friends, family, and other acquaintances by having quality conversation. Conversation is my preferred form of education.

2) You co-own a card game store and are a notable Magic: The Gathering fanatic. What fostered your passion for card games?

I am the majority owner of Cash Cards Unlimited and the trading cards world has been a part of my life since I was as young as 6. It all started with Pokémon cards. From there I started playing and collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and one day I walked into a store called hidden fortress in my home town of Simi Valley California. I asked for Pokémon and then Yu-Gi-Oh and they had neither. That day I was introduced to magic the gathering and I've been hooked to the game ever since.

3) Your father and older brother both played in the NFL. How did that influence you as a player growing up?

I always wanted to be a football player like my Father was and I know my older brother Curtis felt the same way. I was motivated to get there and watch my older brother do it before me. It was a great blessing to be able to watch it be done, and do the same in my own way.

4) What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to experience more things and have more conversation with extraordinary people I meet. I’d also advise myself to stay out of my own way and do my best to master the art of patience.

5) If you could invite any three people in history to dinner, who would they be and why?

I’d invite Muhammad Ali, Cleopatra, and Aristotle. Strictly because I'd love to have extensive conversations with them.
