Rams Take Top Spot in Week 3 Discipline Index

The Cincinnati Bengals’ run at the top of the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index was short lived, as the Los Angeles Rams -- after a strong performance against the Indianapolis Colts -- are now at the head of these rankings.

Here is how the top 10 of our Discipline Index unfolds this week:

Week 3 Discipline Index

As a reminder, the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index combines the number of penalties, penalty yardage and turnovers on a per-game basis in order to show which teams are able to play the most mistake-free football.

The biggest takeaway from Week 2 is how well the Las Vegas Raiders have performed through the first two weeks of the season. The Raiders have been famous for committing boatloads of penalties throughout their history; not only have they limited their penalties, they are also protecting the ball extremely well—the Raiders are only averaging 0.5 turnovers per game through two games. Derek Carr has played extremely well, and he has been a huge reason for the Raiders defeating two tough AFC North opponents to start the season. The Raiders’ strong performance against the Steelers in Week 2 led them to rise 16 spots in the Discipline Index. It will be interesting to see if the Raiders can continue their hot start against Miami in Week 3. Their defense has taken a leap from a year ago, but they will surely be tested by a speedy Dolphins receiving group headlined by first-round pick Jaylen Waddle.
