Rams Remain No. 1 in Discipline Index; Saints on the March

Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season has come and gone, and the Los Angeles Rams remain the top team in the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index after a gritty win against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Here is how the top 10 for this week’s Discipline Index unfolded:

As a reminder, the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index combines the number of penalties, penalty yardage and turnovers on a per-game basis in order to show which teams are able to play the most mistake-free football.

While the Rams are flying high at the top of these rankings—and at the top of the NFL for that matter—there is another NFC team that steals the show in this week’s Discipline Index after a strong performance against the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The New Orleans Saints, after a tough loss in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers, came to play against Mac Jones and the New England Patriots. Not only were the Saints able to turn Jones over three times—the rookie QB had zero turnovers prior to this matchup—the Saints also played mistake-free football of their own as they only committed two penalties on the day on top of not turning the ball over a single time in this one. Thanks to this strong performance, the Saints rose 19 spots, and are now the sixth-highest team in terms of discipline total for this week. The Saints will look to improve their record to 3-1 against the New York Giants this week.
