Fantasy Football: Streaming Defenses and Kickers – Week 7

Coming off a bounce-back Week 6 for kickers and defenses, hopefully this trend will continue. After Week 5, where simply avoiding a bad defense and kicker would be considered a moral victory, now we’re back to looking for opportunities for gains. The best option, as always, is to focus on the matchups, and I will break down those best matchups for streaming for Week 7 at both defense and kicker and the reasons why I feel they are great options below.

Defense:

Green Bay Packers (vs. WSH)

The Packers defense makes this list for a second consecutive week after hitting the upper end of my projection of between 5 and 10 points. This week, they match up with a Washington offense coming off an anemic performance against Kansas City, one of the worst defenses so far this year. In addition, their star RB Antonio Gibson may miss the game and will likely be hampered if he does play. All this adds up to Green Bay being a safe option yet again and a solid start.

New York Jets (@ NE)

The Jets defense is far from one of the top defenses but are due for improvement coming out of their bye, still without a single interception thus far. This matchup is a very good one for them and for that goal, as the Patriots have been the second best opponent for fantasy defenses, in large part because of Mac Jones being somewhat prone to interceptions, including a pick-six this past week. The Jets’ defense’s best performance of the season so far was against New England in their first matchup, so this is definitely a good spot to start them.

Las Vegas Raiders (vs. PHI)

Because of bye weeks, matchups, and 15 different defenses having roster percentages above 50%, there is a dearth of great options this week, so my recommendation would be to go with the first two, our subscriber exclusive, or one of the better defenses that misses this list because they’re rostered in most leagues but maybe not in yours. With that being said, in case you still need a defense, Las Vegas is coming off a good defensive week with 4 takeaways against Denver and going up against an Eagles team that has had its struggles offensively in recent weeks. If you need a defense in a deeper league, Vegas is a solid option.

Kickers:

Zane Gonzalez (@ NYG)

Zane Gonzalez also returns to this list for a second consecutive week after a solid nine point performance. He gets another favorable matchup against a Giants team that has allowed 22 point to kickers in the last two weeks. Gonzalez himself has scored 23 in that span, so we have a combination of a kicker on a hot streak with a defense that seems vulnerable and it’s a great matchup for you to take advantage of.

Ryan Succop (vs. CHI)

Succop is an interesting fantasy kicker, as he has been solid over the past three weeks, putting up a very respectable 28 points despite just one field goal attempt the past two weeks. With a matchup against the NFL’s third best red zone defense in preventing TDs, Succop should expect to see more field goal attempts, which definitely increases his value considering how frequently the Buccaneers offense gets themselves into scoring position and field goal range.

Randy Bullock (vs. KC)

Bullock has been a very good kicker this season, with 29 points over the last three weeks and 13 field goal attempts in the five weeks he’s played. The Chiefs are also a very favorable matchup, having allowed 32 points to kickers over the past three weeks as they’ve improved their red zone defense significantly. Bullock is definitely a good starting option for you this week.
