Week 3 Matchups: Betting Breakdowns for Every Game

New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers

The desperate Panthers search for their first win against division rival New Orleans. The Saints have an edge in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and their new group of wide receivers is going to be a lot for Carolina to handle. Can we trust Jameis Winston while he’s playing through broken bones in his back and an ankle issue?

Houston Texans at Chicago Bears

This is a matchup between teams with underperforming offenses, led by second-year quarterbacks.

Kansas City Chiefs at Indianapolis Colts

Matt Ryan’s Colts have started the season 0-1-1 after facing the Texans and Jaguars on the road. Now they get the high-powered Chiefs in their home opener. In this matchups article I discuss what needs to happen for the Colts to give the Chiefs a game.

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings

If you’re in a survivor pool, you know this is a difficult week in that format. Normally, we’d want to completely ignore an option like Minnesota that’s facing a divisional opponent that has scored 71 points in the last two games. However, given the circumstances, the Vikings are one of the teams you have to consider this week.

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots

This game primarily boils down to Lamar Jackson’s ability to beat Bill Belichick’s opponent-specific game plan. We’ve seen Jackson do it once, and we’ve seen him struggle the other time.

Cincinnati Bengals at New York Jets

The Bengals are 0-2, which makes this a game that Cincinnati has to win. The Jets have an underrated front four that could give the struggling Bengals line some issues. Ultimately, though, this seems like the kind of game a guy like Joe Burrow goes out and wins. That’s also what makes the Bengals worth consideration in survivor this week.

Las Vegas Raiders at Tennessee Titans

Tennessee is going into this game down some significant players in LT Taylor Lewan and EDGE Bud Dupree. The Raiders will be without some significant talent themselves, with WR Hunter Renfrow and LB Denzel Perryman out, while it’s been reported that RB Josh Jacobs isn’t traveling with the team. Given the injury situations in this contest, I’ll provide an update on this matchup Sunday morning on our live blog.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Commanders

Washington being a +6.5 home underdog seems like a lot in this matchup. When you really dig into the Eagles, though, you notice that they have one of the best rosters in the league. Jalen Hurts has been pretty good through the first two games, if he can remain consistent the sky's the limit for this offense.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Los Angeles Chargers

The million-dollar question here is even if Justin Herbert starts this game, how likely is it that he’s able to finish it? This is a situation we’ll monitor and then update in Sunday’s live blog.

Los Angeles Rams at Arizona Cardinals

In order for the Cardinals to beat a high-end team like the Rams, Kyler Murray will have to carry this offense just like he did against the Raiders last week. On the Rams end, they have several individual matchup advantages in this contest.

Atlanta Falcons at Seattle Seahawks

This is a contest between two teams that entered the season with flawed rosters and sub-.500 win totals. Marcus Mariota’s Falcons have been feisty so far this season, giving the superior Saints and the defending champion Rams spirited contests. This may end up being the only matchup on the schedule where Atlanta faces an opponent with less high-end talent than they have.

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

For the last decade or more an Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady game would be billed as a potential shootout. That’s not the case for this one, as both teams' wide receiver groups have been significantly impacted by injuries and Mike Evans’ suspension. Tampa Bay’s injury ravaged offensive line faces an ascending Packers front in this matchup.

Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins

Buffalo’s secondary has been absolutely ravaged by injuries, which is especially ill-timed considering what the Dolphins offense did to the Ravens last week. I don’t think we can expect Miami to breach 40-points with regularity, but I do think Mike McDaniel's football operation is for real. On the other hand, do you really want to bet against Josh Allen?

Sunday Night Football: San Francisco 49ers at Denver Broncos

Russell Wilson’s Broncos began the season against two teams with sub-.500 win totals, yet Denver enters Week 3 with a 1-1 record. For San Francisco, they turn back to Jimmy Garoppolo with Trey Lance out for the year. Can Denver get on track against the 49ers championship caliber roster?

Monday Night Football: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants

This is a primetime game between division rivals with volatile quarterbacks, against talented pass rushes. Do the Giants continue their hot start? Or does Cooper Rush add another win that keeps the Cowboys alive until Dak Prescott returns?
