Pro Bowl Quarterback

Michael Vick is a former NFL quarterback who played for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers during his 13 pro seasons. Vick made four Pro Bowls and won NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2010. 

Vick holds NFL records in career yards per carry (7.0) and career rushing yards by a quarterback (6,109). He transformed the quarterback position by using his speed, quickness and elusiveness as a rusher, but also possessed such a strong arm he could throw the football nearly the length of the field. 

Vick had an All-American career at Virginia Tech. In 1999, he not only was the nation’s top quarterback, he was the Big East Offensive Player of the Year. He also won the Big East Rookie of the Year honors. In 2000, he ran for 210 yards in a game against Boston College.

After an unprecedented performance at the NFL Combine, running the 40-yard dash in 4.33 seconds – unheard of for quarterbacks back then; one scout had him as low as 4.25, the fastest time ever for a quarterback – he was selected first overall in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Falcons. He became the first African-American quarterback taken with the top pick in the draft. 

Vick was the starting QB in Atlanta from 2001-2006, and after two seasons out of the NFL he  was signed by the Eagles in 2009. The team eventually traded star Donavan McNabb, making way for Vick to take the starting position for Philadelphia. Vick started 42 games for the Eagles.

In 2014 and 2015, Vick primarily served as a backup for the Jets, then for the Steelers. Vick finished his career with 22,464 passing yards, 133 passing TDs, 6,109 rushing yards, and 36 rushing TDs. His impact on the way the position is played today is significant.

Vick attended both Homer L. Ferguson High School and Warwick High School in Virginia. He threw for more than 400 yards in a game as a freshman in high school, and passed for 43 touchdowns during his sophomore through senior years at Warwick High. 

In his post-playing career Vick has participated in the American Flag Football League as a team captain, and has been a featured NFL analyst on Fox NFL Kickoff. He is a cousin of former NFL QB Aaron Brooks.
